Fashion blogger come designer.

By for the love of fashion in fashion

Looks like us fashion bloggers really are taking over the world. First, we get front row seats at the world’s most famous fashion shows, and now we’re doing designing collections for high street brands!

Yes, Elin Kling is the first ever blogger to have her own high street collection. She’s teamed up with H&M to create the limited fashion line for their new Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Alas, it’s only available in Sweden but we can watch (and cheer) from afar!

Simply Be launches Plus Size Model Competition!

By for the love of fashion in fashion, random

I know, I know, it’s been a while, but I’ve been busy working on a something very special. As a copywriter, I get to ‘do the words’ for all sorts of fun, fashion advertising and the latest is Simply Be’s Plus Size Model Competition!

It’s just gone live… the winner gets £10,000 to spend at Simply Be… a consultation with 12+ UK Model Management… a double page feature in best magazine… a photo shoot for the Simply Be style files… loads of amazing portfolio shots… and I’m sure, lots of great press. Not bad huh?

Needless to say, this was a great project to be involved in. I’m loving that Simply Be are broadening our horizons in terms of plus-size models and I know that their customers have been hankering for a ‘real-woman’ shoot. So if you’ve ever dreamed of being a model, but didn’t fancy slimming down to a size 6 – check out the competition!

Oh – and now that’s done, I’ll be back to blogging very soon! Promise!

i can feel a comeback coming on…

By for the love of fashion in fashion, shopping

I know everyone’s been saying M&S are coming back, but I wasn’t buying any of it. I’ve been in store, checked out those supposedly trendy lines and left disappointed. Worse, I’ve spent many-a-day wondering through their lingerie department, expecting rail upon rail of gorgeous options – but every time I leave empty handed.

And then this!

It’s a sneaky peak of what’s coming up and the moment I saw it, I knew I was going to have to swallow my pride and admit – yes, M&S are back! It was the floral undies that first caught my attention. They’re cute, different (I’m liking the bust shape) and surprisingly affordable - M&S has always been a little too expensive for my liking.

But it was the lace top that really made me look. Worn as lingerie with simple black knickers it’s a gorgeous little ensemble. Oh how I love lace like this. Subtle, sophisticated and perfect with pale skin and red lippy – good choice of model guys! This top is definitely going to make it into my wardrobe, roll on September!

And finally, the outfit. There were a lot to choose from, but this one isjust LFW - it had to go on the blog. The leather skirt makes it for me, it’s the piece you’d question on sight – would I wear it. But the rest is great too and I think this goes to show that actually, you can do high fashion at M&S – I fact I wouldn’t have believed yesterday!

are you brave enough?

By for the love of fashion in fashion, shopping

I know peek-a-boo is in, but tell me honestly – would you wear this? Risque doesn’t even come close. This is the stuff of celebrity fairy tales and supermodel legends, it’s not the kind of thing the general public put in their holiday suitcase.

That said, it is very pwetty and if you’ve got the confidence to rock it on the beach, well who am I to stop you? Get it at Bunny Hug for the rather high-end price tag of £245! Oh and while you’re there, make the most of their online style advisers! How cool is that, a stylist at your beck and call…

First wear for my £5 Primark dress. Coupled with a cute grey Topshop cardie (bought in the sale), a patent pink belt, grey ankle socks and vintage white shoes. I think this is going to be a Summer favourite!

Tesco’s Facebook page goes crazy!

By for the love of fashion in fashion, shopping

Today is Tesco’s ‘Friday Frenzy’ and ‘frenzy’ was definitely the right choice of words. Their Facebook page has gone crazy with people waiting for a 50% off discount code! And the question on everyone’s lips is – when will the code be released?

Personally, I think they’ll make us sweat and leave it until this afternoon.

cheap chic: summer looks for less

By for the love of fashion in fashion, shopping

I like the idea of designer clothes as much as the next girl – but let’s face it unless I win the lottery (and I don’t think my numbers came in on the Euromillions last week), I’m not gonna be able to afford. So I expect cheap chic will become a regular fixture on the blog! And here are three shining examples of just what I’m talking about…

Boohoo.com

This look has everything going for it. From the cute denim shirt, sleeveless for a quirky new take on the season’s hottest trend, to that off-white skirt and those perfect lace tights. It’s the kind of outfit you wouldn’t naturally put together, which, of course,  makes it one of the best – and it really does look high fashion. So, what’s the price tag on this head to toe look? £31 – BARGAIN! Even better, these cute little pieces will work wonders with the rest of your wardrobe. Look at me, I sound like I’m selling boohoo - so let’s move swiftly onto the next look!

Clothing at Tesco

This is my favourite of the three. Such a nice little mix of prints, the stripes on top, the florals on the bottom – I want it all and I want to wear it together. Got to admit, I’m not too fussed about the accessories. You can take ‘em or leave ‘em – chances are you have something that’ll work in your own collection. So my head to toe outfit – £15. With the accessories – £52 (but that does include a bag, a pretty posh necklace and a pair of shoes, so still a bargain). I’ve searched the website high and low to find these little beauties, but they’re not available yet. @ClothingatTesco promises me they’ll be on sale from 17th May though, so save a little of this month’s pay check for then, because you’ll have loads of new F&F pieces to snap up!

Primark

And what cheap chic piece would be complete without an outfit from Primark. They rule this area of the market and when you look at that gorgeous third outfit, you’ll soon understand why. Cute floral top – £2.50. Yes ladies and gentlemen, they don’t even round up to the pound.  Even cuter floral skirt – £5. So basically, we’re talking £7.50 for the clothes – and what a gorgeous, print-clashing combo it is too! Add the accessories – bag £2.50 (bargain), shoes £15 (okay, well you can’t have everything) - and hey presto, you’re dressed for £25! Wow-zer!

One downer though – no website. Gutted!

June at ASOS: a sneaky peak!

By for the love of fashion in fashion, shopping

This gorgeous selection is a just a handful or the gorgeous options ASOS have lined up for us in June! Aren’t they lovely? The florals, the denims, the feathers – all the hottest trends are in there! And the crowing jewel – a dress that mirrors the mesh masterpiece everyone was talking about last season. The same volumptuous skirt but with a new colour and that gorgeous black lining. I have no idea where I would wear such a thing, but I still kinda want it.

in search of inspiration… Elle June 2010

By for the love of fashion in random

If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you’ve probably noticed me whinging about the lack of Internet. The virgin box packed in somewhere between midnight Friday and 9am Saturday – just in time for the bank holiday weekend. So all my plans to scour the web for fashion goodies went out of the window. And my payday shopping spree? The 20% off ASOS are promising over the weekend? The 25% off Tesco Clothing countered with – not a chance!

Anywho, never one to go a weekend without – I hit my magazine stash, in search of a little style inspiration. And here’s what I found…

Denim, loving denim right now. I keep getting the urge to ‘revive’ all my old jeans, but I can’t help but think it’ll end up being a mistake. That playsuit is a stunner, I can just imagine it with a cute pink shirt, maybe tied up Grease-style. Or what about a floral cardie (if you see a good one anywhere, please comment – I’ve been looking and looking…).

And the bag? I’ve only got one designer bag in my arsenal, a vintage Dior hand-me-down. But if I had the money to spurge on that kind of thing, this denim one would be my top choice. It’s my idea of down-to-earth but with all the detail a designer bag promises. It just looks special – and I want!

And florals. Oh, how I’m loving florals. There’s something about the cluttered, chintzyness of it all that just says ‘fashion’. I mean, I know this whole simplicity thing is in, but it’s a little to easy to mistake that for ‘dull as dishwater’. I’m think crazy, over-done looks are going to be the easy fashion look this Summer.

So there’s the obligatory floral dress, the cute-as-you-like bikini – and my personal favourite, those floral leggings! I actually made a pact with myself never to wear leggings – that was about 3 years ago when they first came in. I still don’t own a pair, but I’m starting to regret that decision and I think it might be time to bite the bullet and step into this fashion century. Now if that’s going to happen, it’s going to have to be for something really special – and these floral leggings are ticking the boxes. Shopping tomorrow, so if they’re in stock…

Confession time. I’ve already worn shorts this year – and not with tights or on a night out but because it actually felt warm enough. Now I’m crazy-excited about the prospect of Summer shorts. I think it’s the fact that they’re all a little kooky this season. Not just denim or plain, but covered in prints (somehow it’s much more fun when on shorts than on skirts, it’s just normal on skirts).

And this little beauty is my most coveted piece. It’s just so sophisticated. I like that it does coverage without losing the sexy. I like that it’s styled with a belt. I like the stripes and the shape and the simplicity of it. I’m even imagining it under skirts, shorts and cardies – or more daring, worn on a night out with tights and a big dollop of confidence. So the question is – is £61 too much for a swimsuit? The more I look at it, the more I think no. I’ve gone that extra step and looked on the website, but I can’t find it. If anyone knows where I can get one, drop me an email or a comment!

And the moral of the story? A good fashion magazine is just as good as the Internet, especially if you’re on the move or waiting for the cable guy to arrive. Thanks Elle, you just about saved my weekend, though my purse is feeling so much lighter now…
